Important Update from the Staff
After more than a year of bargaining, AAUP management still refuses to provide fair compensation, insists on eliminating the study leave benefit for staff, and refuses to provide equitable paid family and medical leave for all staff. Last week, AAUP management threatened to take away retroactive compensation increases resulting from a new contract if we refused to accept their demands by Friday, June 30, at 5 p.m. This gave the United Staff of the AAUP no choice but to hold a strike authorization vote. On Friday, with full participation of the entire staff union membership, a strike was authorized by US-AAUP members. 97% of members voted in favor.
In addition to the strike authorization on Friday, the union negotiations committee submitted a counter package to management. Our offer appropriately addresses needs for reasonable compensation and equity as well as management concerns regarding study leave. The US-AAUP is eager to resolve the agreement soon, but we are committed to one that is reasonable, equitable, fair, and upholds the standards we fight for every day at the Association. Management has not responded to our package.
